Stopping problems before they start
Preventative dentistry is everything we do — and everything we help you do at home — to keep your teeth and gums healthy enough that serious problems simply don't develop. It's an approach that saves time, money, and discomfort over the course of a lifetime, and it's one that Dr. Lindsey takes seriously because the results speak for themselves.
A dental sealant placed on a child's molar at age eight can protect that tooth for years to come. A custom night guard worn nightly can prevent thousands of dollars in restorative treatment down the road. These aren't upsells — they're the smarter, less invasive path, and we believe in explaining clearly why each recommendation makes sense for you specifically.
Preventative services we provide
Dental Sealants
Sealants are thin protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth — the grooved, uneven surfaces where bacteria and food particles most commonly settle and cause decay. The application is quick, painless, and highly effective. We most commonly recommend sealants for children and teenagers, though adults with deep grooves in their molars can benefit as well.
Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride works at a microscopic level to strengthen tooth enamel, making it more resistant to the acid attacks that cause cavities. Dr. Lindsey frequently says fluoride is "like milk for your bones" - because fluoride helps to keep your enamel strong. We offer professional fluoride treatments for patients of all ages — not just children. Adults who have early-stage cavities, have enamel wear or gum recession (root exposure), experience dry mouth, take medications that reduce saliva production, or have a history of frequent cavities often see real benefit from periodic fluoride application.
Custom Night Guards
Did you know your teeth should be touching for only 20 minutes a day? Bruxism — teeth grinding and clenching, usually during sleep — is more common than most people realize, and it causes gradual, cumulative damage to enamel, restorations (fillings and crowns), and even the jaw joint. Too much strain on the jaw joint can cause tension, muscle aches, jaw pain, and can even contribute to headaches and chronic migraine. A custom-fitted night guard made from models of your actual teeth can be part of a plan to prevent or manage these issues. A guard or splint made by Dr. Lindsey will be dramatically more comfortable and effective than anything you'll find at the pharmacy, and it will protect your teeth from the constant wear that grinding causes over months and years.
Custom Athletic Mouthguards
Over-the-counter mouthguards are loose, uncomfortable, and don't stay in place during contact. A custom athletic guard fits precisely, stays secure, doesn't interfere with breathing, and provides significantly better protection against impact injuries. We make them for adults and kids alike.
Oral Hygiene Instruction
Most people have never been formally shown proper brushing and flossing technique, and even small adjustments in method can make a real difference in what you're missing at home. We take time to demonstrate what's actually working for you and where you might be leaving buildup behind — without making you feel lectured.
The toothpaste aisle is chock-full of products these days. Are certain products best for you? Ask us at your next visit!
Family care for every age. When should I bring my child in for their first visit? A child's first dental visit should be by age 1, or within 6 months of their first tooth coming in. Getting children comfortable at the dentist early — and protecting their teeth from the start — sets them up for better oral health throughout their lives. We welcome the whole family and see patients of all ages!.
Prevention as an investment
Every dollar spent on preventative care tends to save thousands of dollars (and far more time and discomfort) in restorative work avoided. We'll never recommend a preventative treatment without explaining exactly why it makes sense for your situation — and we're always happy to answer questions before you decide.
