Alignment affects more than appearance
Misaligned teeth aren't purely an aesthetic concern. Crowded or overlapping teeth are harder to clean effectively — plaque and calculus (tartar) hides in places a toothbrush and floss can't reliably reach, which increases the risk of cavities and gum disease over time. Certain bite problems can cause uneven or premature wear on enamel and contribute to jaw discomfort. Orthodontic treatment addresses all of this, and today's options can include more than the metal bracket-and-wire experience most adults associate with the word "braces."
At Advanced Dentistry of Mooresville, we offer clear aligner therapy — the preferred choice for most adult patients, and increasingly popular with teens as well, because of how comfortably it fits into daily life.
How clear aligners work
Clear aligners use a series of custom-fabricated, removable trays to gradually shift teeth into their correct positions. Each set of trays is worn for one to two weeks before advancing to the next set in the series. The trays are made from smooth, virtually invisible plastic — most people won't notice you're wearing them in conversation.
Because they're fully removable, you eat and drink whatever you'd like without restrictions, and you brush and floss exactly as you normally would. There's no worrying about food getting stuck in brackets or special tools for cleaning around hardware.
Treatment timeline
How long treatment takes depends on the complexity of your case. Minor spacing or crowding issues can sometimes be addressed in a few months. More involved cases — significant crowding, bite correction, or more complex tooth movements may take a year or longer.
Is clear aligner treatment right for you?
Clear aligners are highly effective for mild to moderate alignment issues, including crowding, spacing, and many bite concerns. During your consultation, we'll determine whether aligners can achieve your goals or whether your situation would be better served by a different approach. We'd rather point you in the right direction than enroll you in a treatment that isn't the best fit.
